It is recommended that students pursing education licensure be admitted to the Teacher Education Program in their sophomore year. This allows time to complete three required courses and develop a college GPA. Students should see their advisers for assistance with the initial admission process.
For initial admission, the minimum cummulative GPA must be 3.0.
A composite score of 22 is required on the ACT for initial admission to the Teacher Education Program. This is a composite score from the tests in four subject areas: English, Math, Reading, Science and Reasoning. For more information on ACT test administrations on the Southern campus, please visit http://www.southern.edu/administration/student-success/testing/act.html.
This website, though not endorsed by Southern, offers free practice tests for the ACT and is one option available to you to help you prepare for the test. https://uniontestprep.com/act/practice-test
An alternative to the ACT is the SAT, with a minimum combined requirement of 1030 on two tests: Critical Reading/Verbal and Math. Another alternative is pass each of the three Praxis Core tests, as noted below.
