Bachelor of Arts in English–Teaching
"I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are
as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of
the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit."
- John Steinbeck
The Bachelor of Arts degree in English with teaching certification prepares students to share their love of literature and writing through teaching at the secondary level.
Taking a variety of education classes gives students an opportunity to pass on the knowledge they gain in their English classes to middle and high school students in the Chattanooga area.
Because the BA English–Teaching is taught jointly by the English Department and the School of Education and Psychology, students must fulfill the requirements set forth by both departments. In the second year, students must apply for Initial Admission to the Teacher Education Program in the School of Education and Psychology. For more information, visit their website.
