Intelligent design is a scientific theory which holds that certain features of the universe and living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, and are not the result of an undirected, chance-based process. We believe there is an infinite mind behind the design.
In the origins debate, variables such as worldview, the different approaches of historical and empirical science, and the laws of probability must be considered. But would you expect beauty to be a significant factor as well?
The Origins Exhibit explores these and other indications that lead us to an Intelligent Designer. Scientific evidence does not definitively prove (or disprove) our origins, and there are unanswered questions on both sides of the debate.
Meanwhile, it is interesting to observe beauty at all levels of nature—from the exquisite intricacies of the single cell to the vast expanse of space and everything in between. Beauty—expendable and even extravagant in essence—is an aspect of the natural world that would seem incompatible with a system that prioritizes efficiency.
