Barry Tryon

Barry Tryon joined the School of Religion faculty in 2011.  He came to Southern from the Pennsylvania Conference, where he served as executive secretary and ministerial director from 2004 to 2010. 

Prior to his time in church administration, Tryon served as a pastor to several congregations in the Florida and Pennsylvania Conferences.  He has conducted evangelistic meetings in his own  churches and has been a guest evangelist for other congregations. 

Dr. Tryon teaches in the area of church ministries.  His departmental classes include Introduction toMinistry and Interpersonal Ministry.  His other classes include Life and Teachings of Jesus and Christian Spirituality.

Tryon's non-academic interest include spending time with his family, running half-marathons, soap-making, gardening, and tending his small vineyard of Concord and muscadine grapes.

Tryon is married to Lilly (Boles) Tryon, and they have two young adult sons: Daniel and David.  Lilly, a Doctor of Nurse Practitioner, is an assistant professor in the School of Nursing here at Southern.
