Port Restrictions

TCP/UDP Port Restrictions

The complete Internet security policy is unpublished, but the following items may affect daily use and are listed for your convenience.

  • Outbound TCP port 25 (e-mail via SMTP) is largely prohibited. This is in place to prevent viruses from propagating to the Internet. As a workaround, you may use Southern's SMTP server at smtp.southern.edu or try an alternate port such as 587 (assuming the specific SMTP server is available on an alternate port).
  • While inbound connections to the dorm network are normally blocked, TCP ports 90-99 and 113 have been left open.
