Dr. Heck is thrilled to be teaching here! After graduating from Southern in 2001, her dream was to gain experience in the field of social work and then return to Southern to teach. She loves working with students and is passionate about supporting them in their educational/career goals. One thing you will learn about her is that she loves to help and if she does not know the answer, she will search until she finds it. You will never bother her because, frankly, without you (the student) there is no university. So, ask away. She is here to support you in your endeavors.

After graduating from Southern with her BSW, Dr. Heck went to the very frigid state of Michigan where she obtained her MSW from Andrews University. She then moved to sunny Florida where she worked in a mental health facility, provided in-home counseling and, ultimately, found one of her passions to be working in the school system as a school-based counselor. She also fulfilled a leadership role for a pro-social skills initiative between the local community and the Orange County School District in Orlando, Florida. In May 2015, Dr. Heck completed her DSW in clinical practice and leadership.

Dr. Annette Heck is married to Mr. Adam Heck, who teaches math at Southern. She finds herself blessed to have married her best friend and feels blessed beyond measure. They are proud parents of two sweet boys (a fun toddler and a smiley infant).  To round out the family, they have two energetic Australian Shepherd "canine-kids." Some of Dr. Heck's favorite hobbies include spending time with her family, doing any kind of photo art, game nights, music, playing sports, and traveling as much as possible with her hubby, kiddos, and two dogs in tow.
