Ron Johnson, professor of mathematics, graduated from Southern Adventist University (back when it was called Southern Missionary College) in 1979 with a bachelor of music degree. He received his master’s and Ph.D. degrees (both in math) from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Dr. Johnson taught in elementary school and in high school while in Texas. After receiving his Ph.D., he taught math at Andrews University for 15 years. Then he decided that he could ride his bike more often without the water bottles freezing up if he moved south, so in 2006 he joined the faculty at Southern.
Johnson enjoys teaching math (both elementary and advanced), playing his trombone, and, of course, riding his bike. Each summer he vacations with his family by riding across (or around a several hundred-mile circuit in) a state. He has ridden across Michigan four times, Iowa seven times and Indiana once.
