School of Music
Ken Parsons has bachelor’s degrees in both music education and theology from Walla
Walla College, and a master of music degree in brass performance from the University
Before coming to Southern, he taught at Redlands Junior Academy in southern California for two years, at Forest Lake Academy for fourteen years, and Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida for four years.
He is currently an associate professor in the School of Music, where he directs the wind symphony and jazz ensemble, coaches the brass quintet, and teaches various music education courses, as well as trumpet lessons. In addition, he serves as assistant to the Dean of the School of Music.
He and his wife, Kristi, have two children—Kris and Kaari—who are currently Southern students.
He enjoys playing the trumpet, skiing, yard work, computers, reading, and spicy Indian food.
