School of Journalism & Communication
Greg Rumsey is a professor in the School of Journalism and Communication. He has been
on the Southern faculty since 2001, after 17 years of teaching communication, journalism
and English at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. His classes include Public Relations,
Mass Communication, Public Speaking, and Advertising.
Dr. Rumsey, an alumnus of Southern Adventist University, holds a doctor of philosophy in communication from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a master of arts in communication from the University of Colorado at Denver. He has served as a student newspaper adviser and has filled leadership roles on a number of administrative and faculty committees on the college level.
In addition to the academic environment, his professional background includes summer work as a newspaper copy editor at the Lincoln Star, and he has published several articles in church magazines and has created public relations copy as a free-lance writer. His earlier career experience included eight years in health care public relations at Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver and two years on the full-time staff of WSMC-FM radio on Southern’s campus.
To round out his life, Dr. Rumsey enjoys his family, photography, hiking, singing with inSpirit men's chorus, and serving as a Sabbath School leader. He and his wife, Shirley, also an alumnus of Southern, have two children who are grown and married, plus three grandsons and one granddaughter.
