SOUTHERN SERVES: Volunteer Event
November 5, 2017
(Shift 1) 9-11 a.m.
(Shift 2) 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Iles P.E. Center

Alumni and students will be going global at an event to impact childhood hunger through a partnership with Feed My Starving Children, a Christian nonprofit. We will be the hearts and hands to actively pack 100,000+ meals for shipping around the world, including islands in the Caribbean devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Volunteer T-shirts and meal preparation materials are provided at the event.

WE NEED 500 VOLUNTEERS AND YOUR HELP RAISING $25,000 TO PAY FOR THE FOOD!

Participants working in just a single two-hour shift will pack hundreds of meals that mean the difference between life and death for some of the world's most vulnerable people. Participants are also encouraged, but not required, to help offset the cost of the food they're packing by fundraising online (see "Invite Friends" section further down on this page).

fmscWe're excited about serving alongside you for this impactful event! Register to volunteer for Southern’s Feed My Starving Children mobile pack activity and contribute tax-deductible support using the links below.

SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER
Meal packing with Feed My Starving Children is a fun community event; volunteers work in groups of 13-15 at a packing station. This is a great way to build camaraderie with new friends (LifeGroups, student clubs, etc) or reconnect with former classmates and professors in alumni teams built around academic affinities.

» Join As An Individual
There is still room in Shift 2 (11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.) to sign up and volunteer alongside a variety of other alumni and students without joining an official team.

» Join Existing Team
If the individual spots are full, you can still join an existing team that has openings remaining. The following list represents different areas on campus with teams that have volunteer spots available as of November 3. If you see your major or other affinity group listed, please sign up to serve alongside them.

Alumni (general)
Japanese Life Group
Pre-Med Club
School of Social Work

Students seeking service credit for their participation need to sign up both on the Feed My Starving Children website, as well as Southern's service site.

INVITE FRIENDS TO HELP BUY THE FOOD
Each volunteer packs $50 worth of food during a shift. Feed My Starving Children has a great tool ("Become A Fundraiser") that allows volunteers to take advantage of social media and other crowdsourcing options to draw financial support for your participation. Both individuals and teams can create these fundraising pages. So set a goal and get busy sharing your link on Facebook, via email, or any other way you can imagine! If just a few of your friends and family online give $5 each, the food you pack will be paid for in no time.

Southern will be passing out paper plates on campus in the weeks leading up to our event that have startling statistics about the epidemic of global starvation. These are a both a great personal reminder of why we're doing what we're doing, and a handy visual aid for sharing your participation in a Facebook or Instagram post where you can include a link to your specific fundraising link.

MAKE A PERSONAL DONATION
Can't make it to our Southern Serves event on November 5? Financial support from non-attendees goes a long way toward encouraging participation from students and young alumni. Help volunteers reach their fundraising goal!
