I Cantori, Southern Adventist University’s chamber choir, conducted by Gennevieve Brown-Kibble, will present its Spring Concert on Sunday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Ackerman Auditorium on the campus of Southern.
Entitled “Song of Songs,” the concert will feature unique choral arrangements of texts from the Song of Solomon and will be divided into two sections. The first section will feature favorite songs from the year. Daniel Pinkham’s Wedding Cantata will serve as the highlight of the “Song of Songs” theme in the second section.
“I chose this theme because the Song of Solomon contains some of the richest descriptions of the blossoming of flowers and of love that takes place in the spring,” Brown-Kibble said.
The choir recently returned from a ten-day tour over spring break. They provided music for worship services and presented workshops for academies in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan, ending their tour at Andrews University.
I Cantori also had the opportunity to attend the American Choral Directors Association Central Division Conference in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The students attended a variety of interest sessions, read through new music, and heard several of the finest choirs in the country.
“It was an invaluable exercise for my students to hear other choirs,” Brown-Kibble said. “They had an opportunity to sit in the conductor’s position and observe some of what I see and hear when I’m conducting them.”
The concert is free and open to the public. For additional information contact Southern’s School of Music at 423.236.2880.
