Krystal Bishop is passionate about both teaching and learning. She joined Southern Adventist University after spending 20 years in the Seventh-day Adventist educational system in Florida Conference. Her experience there included elementary classroom teaching and serving as associate superintendent of education, with emphasis on developing a special education component.
Dr. Bishop graduated in 1975 from Southern College (now Southern Adventist University) with a BS in elementary education. At that time she was committed to making education special for all children. This commitment led her to attend the University of South Florida to obtain a master’s degree in learning disabilities. Graduate work was so stimulating and fulfilling that she continued, earning an Ed.D. in special education in 1999.
Professional affiliations include International Reading Association and the Education Club. She is the sponsor for the Southern Adventist University student chapter of the Education Club. Presenting at professional conferences and conducting workshops in areas related to education and spiritual life are additional areas of professional interest.
Dr. Bishop is committed to her students. In 2010 she was honored as SAU Advisor of the Year. In 2011 she received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Because of her passion for teaching Dr. Bishop is anxious to nurture her students in the love of learning and teaching. She welcomes every opportunity for interaction and especially appreciates the privilege of being a spiritual mentor to her students and advisees.
