As the favorite child (not a typo) of a pastor and educator, I naturally grew up with an interest in words and an aptitude for education. Growing up, I never wanted to be a teacher in the formal classroom setting. In fact, I actively avoided the classroom for many years, though I knew education in some form would always be part of what I did. As I matured and my spiritual journey led me to obedience (and the realization that stubbornness is not a virtue), I reluctantly entered the classroom. The moment I opened my mouth and said my first words in my first class, I knew this was what the Lord had for me.
All but one position in my entire professional scope have been writing or education related. (The one Christmas season I worked in a CD store was nothing short of torture.) My journey has led me to be a tutor, an editor, a transcriber, a freelancer, a ghost writer, a copyeditor, a technical communicator, and now a college professor. I joined the Southern Adventist University English Department in 2012.
I have had the privilege to teach Critical Thinking in Academic Reading & Writing and create Grammar and It’s Its Consequences, as well as Professional & Technical Writing.
