Ron Johnson, professor of mathematics, graduated from Southern Adventist University (back when it was called Southern Missionary College) in 1979 with a Bachelor of Music degree. He received his master’s and PhD degrees (both in math) from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Professor Johnson taught elementary school and high school while in Texas. After receiving his PhD, he taught math at Andrews University for 15 years. Then he decided he could ride his bike more often without the water bottles freezing up if he moved south, so in 2006 he joined the faculty at Southern.
Johnson enjoys teaching math (both elementary and advanced), playing his trombone, and, of course, riding his bike. Each summer he vacations with his family by riding across (or around a several-hundred-mile circuit in) a state. He has ridden across Michigan four times, Iowa seven times, and Indiana once.
