Which entrance exam do I take?

PAX Exam

All pre-nursing students seeking admission to Southern Adventist University Level 1 AS or BSN nursing program not already an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse).

This is a two-hour online standardized exam with three sections (Verbal skills, Math, and Science) of approximately 40 min. each. Registration and payment is online with NLN (National League of Nursing). The cost is $40, and there are no refunds. Scroll down to "Register for PAX exam" for instructions.

NACE Exam
LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurse) who want to be considered for admission into LEVEL 2 of our AS or BSN program.

This is a 200-question online standardized exam over your LPN knowledge (like NCLEX-PN). You are given up to four hours to complete. Registration and payment is online with NLN (National League of Nursing). The cost is $65, and there are no refunds. Scroll down to "Register for NACE exam" for instructions.

What if I have a disability?

If you have a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (www.ada.gov) you may quality for specific testing accommodations. Documentation from a Health Care Provider or Southern Adventist University Disability Support Services to request test accommodations are to be submitted to the School of Nursing three weeks in advance of desired test date.

  • Do not use a smartphone or iPad to register.
  • Have your credit or debit card handy before you begin registering.

Short instructions--    Create an account:  

  • Be sure to put Southern Adventist University as the school and Eastern time (New York) as your time zone.
  • Write down your user name and password. You will need this to take the exam.
  • You will receive a time-sensitive link in your email. Follow instructions to confirm your account.
  • You must confirm the account before it can be used.
  • Sign into your account.
  • Review information presented on the dashboard.

Register for specific testing time:

  1. Have a credit or debit card available. (If you get timed out while searching for your credit card, you will get an access denied message.)
  2. Select the exam Sessions tab.
  3. Type Southern Adventist University in the School Box.
  4. Find the exam session name and date that you want to attend. PAX exams are labeled SAU PAX (date). Be thorough while registering. There are no refunds.
  5. You can click on the exam name to view the location of the exam and the exam price.
  6. Select the "Register" button then select the "Save Registration" button.
  7. Enter your credit or debit card information. Do not leave the web page until you do this.
  8. When you are successful the dashboard will have a green banner stating that your Registration has been saved.
  9. You will also be able to view your exam under My Upcoming Exam(s).

Detailed instructions on website. Look for "Student Guide to NLN Testing Portal" in the lower left (last item under "Resources"). Remember registration closes 24 hours before scheduled exam.

Can I retake the PAX? How long do I have to wait?

  • Yes! You may retake the PAX…. Just sign up again.
  • No need to wait, but you may have better success with study and practice.
