For the convenience of all K-12 teachers in Seventh-day Adventist schools, a number of online teacher certification courses (only courses with a "T" in the course number) are offered through Southern Adventist University at a reduced fee of $150 per credit hour. Regular tuition rate applies to all other courses.

How do I Apply to Take Courses?

Be sure to select the Adventist Teacher Application. If you have trouble completing the application, please contact the Graduate Studies Office at 423.236.2694 or grad@southern.edu. Once you complete the application, you will begin receiving automated emails regarding the next steps in completing your registration.

NOTE: Although you indicate on the application which courses you want to take, you will still need to register for those courses.

What about payment?

You are responsible for paying for your courses. Although you provide the names of your employing conference and union, they will be billed ONLY IF they have made arrangements with Southern Adventist University.
IMPORTANT: You will not be able to register for courses until you sign Southern's Financial Responsibility Agreement.

Authenticating Your Identity

All students, including those who enroll in a distance education courses at Southern Adventist University for the first time, are required to authenticate their identity at the time of initial registration in their first semester at Southern or in the first semester they take courses after the authentication policy was put in place (Fall 2018). The student may accomplish this using one of the following options:

  • Authenticate in person at Southern Adventist University by obtaining an ID card, or
  • Authenticate online with Southern's secure identity verification partner, UCard, a division of ProctorU.
