Adventist Teacher Certification

For the convenience of all K-12 teachers in Seventh-day Adventist schools, a number of online teacher certification courses (only courses with a "T" in the course number) are offered through Southern Adventist University at a reduced fee of $150 per credit hour. Regular tuition rate applies to all other courses.

NOTE: The entire process can not be completed initially. You will need to return to this page over time to complete the process required for your certification.

How do I Apply to Take Courses?

Be sure to select the Adventist Teacher Application. If you have trouble completing the application, please contact the Graduate Studies Office at 423.236.2964 or grad@southern.edu. When the application has been processed, you will be emailed the information necessary to set up your Southern student account and register for courses.

NOTE: Although you indicate on the application which courses you want to take, you will still need to register for those courses.

What about payment?

You are responsible for paying for your courses. Although you provide the names of your employing conference and union, they will be billed ONLY IF they have made arrangements with Southern Adventist University.

IMPORTANT: You will not be able to register for courses until you sign Southern’s Financial Responsibility Agreement.


Set Up a Southern Student Email Account

In order to access online classes and grade information, all students must have a Southern email account. After your application is processed, you will receive an email with your student identification number and instructions for setting up your account.

If you already have a Southern email account but cannot remember your user name or password, contact the Campus Card Desk at 423.236.2707.

IMPORTANT: All communication about courses will be sent to your Southern email account. You must check your account often or you may miss important notices.

Before registration opens for the semester, you will receive an email in your Southern account with instructions for registering for courses.

Should you need to check which courses you selected on your application, you can do so on your Application Status Page.

Before registration, you must either:
Verify that you have proper health insurance while at Southern
       - OR -
Enroll in the health insurance offered by United Healthcare

Begin Your Course

Teacher certification courses for the summer session open May 1 so that you can begin exploring eClass. Teacher certification courses in the fall and winter sessions and Graduate degree courses for all sessions will be available according to the university-wide schedule for course start dates. If you log on and do not see your courses, contact the Online Campus at online@southern.edu.

NOTE: Teacher certification courses are not self-paced. Assignments/projects have due dates, live class meetings are conducted online once per week or so, and there may be quizzes/exams on specific dates.

Request Your Transcript

Your conference/union may require a transcript of your grades at the end of the semester. It is your responsibility to request a transcript from Southern once your courses are complete and the grades are posted.
