Robert Benge, PhD
Bob Benge is the Dean of the School of Physical Education, Health, and Wellness (PEHW)
at Southern Adventist University. In addition to his administrative duties as dean,
he teaches Statistics, First-aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor,
Basic Swimming, Kayaking, Tennis, Softball and Secondary Methods of Physical Education.
Bob supervises student teachers and Wellness majors' internships.
Benge graduated from Southern Adventist University with a BS degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 1977. He continued his education at Old Dominion University where he received a MSEd in Physical Education in 1986. Lastly, he received his PhD in Physical Education from the University of New Mexico in 2001.
A former elementary physical education specialist, Benge has 37 years of teaching
experience in Health and Physical Education. He also has 41 years of experience as
an American Red Cross lifeguard and water safety instructor. He has served local communities
as a commissioner for youth sports, coach, sports official, and fundraising coordinator.
Bob Benge's professional affiliations include Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Society of Health and Physical Educators, Tennessee Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Tennessee Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. On campus he is a member of the Alumni Committee, Cohutta Springs Triathlon Committee, and the Academic Review Committee. Bob is faculty sponsor of the Southern Striders Running Club.
Bob's favorite hobbies include running, swimming, bicycling, photography, skiing, and working around his house and yard. His wife's name is Debbie, and his two grown children are Bo and Kyle.
