Dale Walters

Mr. Dale Walters, Associate Professor, graduated in 1981 (cum laude) from Southern Missionary College (now Southern Adventist University) with an Industrial Education major. He was listed in the National Who's Who in Colleges for 1981. He received an MS degree in Technology from East Tennessee State University in 1986. In 1996 he received his triple Master ASE certification in 18 ASE specialties. As a special recognition of this honor, his name is inscribed in the honor book displayed in the Automotive Hall of Fame in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Walters has taught at Cedar Lake Academy/Great Lakes Adventist Academy (1982-1987) and at Southern since 1987. His special interests are “automobiles in any form,” and he especially enjoys antiques. Mr. Walters takes great interest in the new developments in computer and electronics in the automotive field. He enjoys history, reading, gardening, and woodworking. From 1974 to 1978 he was involved as a student missionary in the Nicaragua Mission project. Since 1997 he has been involved in helping to restart the mission project in Nicaragua and he serves on the mission board as the treasurer. Mr. Walters is married to Lezlee (Caine) Walters, also a 1981 Southern Missionary College graduate and has two children, Christopher, who lives in Michigan, and Diana, who lives here in Collegedale.  Mr. Walters can be contacted at dwalters@southern.edu or 423.236.2863. 

John Youngberg  

Mr. Youngberg is Associate Professor at Southern Adventist University’s Technology Department, teaching most of thecore requirement courses for the Construction Management degree.

While in college, he postponed his senior year to be the construction manager building 160 houses for victims of Hurricane David, which destroyed much of the southern end of Dominican Republic. In 1982 he was the recipient of Andrews University’s “Outstanding Service Award”. He graduated with a Bachelor of Industrial Technology degree from Andrews University in 1983. While still in his senior year he was hired as the first paid project manager of Maranatha Flights International (now known as Maranatha Volunteers International), he also became their Executive Secretary. After leaving Maranatha he worked as a commercial superintendant for Hensel Associates, building retirement centers and nursing homes. Mr. Youngberg has owned his own remodeling company and knows what it is like to make payrolls as well as satisfy clients. In 1990 he received a M.Ed. from Wright State University and also received a Bachelor of Art in Spanish. He was inducted to the Spanish Honor Society “Sigma Delta Pi” at that time.

His maternal grandfather was superintendent of construction for Metro-Goldwin Mayer (MGM) movie studios. He is the son of missionary parents and spent the first 11 years of his life in South America living in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Bolivia. He has run dozens of mission trips, a habit he plans to continue every spring break with his students. During the 2011-12 school year he took all his students to Haiti, where they began to build an orphanage.

He and his wife Ivette previously were in Micronesia where he was the principal (and re-builder) of Guam Adventist Academy for 7 years. No matter what the job is, there is always something to repair or re-build. His office phone number is 423.236.2567 and his email is youngbergj@southern.edu.

  

Emiko Marr 

Emiko Marr, Business Manager of Tech Sales & Service, graduated from Southern with an associate degree in accounting in 1995 and from Walden University with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2009. She has worked at several places, including the Samaritan Center and Cigna Healthcare before working here at the Technology Department since 1999. Some of her interests include horseback riding, reading, music, traveling, camping, fishing, and spending time with her family. Emiko is married to Devin and has 3 bonus children.

Wesley O'Ffill, Technician

Wes O’Ffill graduated from Southern with his associate degree in Automotive Service in 2014. Since then he has been working as one of the full time technicians at the Technology Department. Originally from Maryland, he graduated from Spencerville Adventist Academy. He is enjoying the South’s warmer weather and slower pace of life. Logan Swilling, Technician

Logan Swilling graduated from Southern with his associate degree in Autmotive Service in 2016.  Since then he has been working as one of the full time technicians at the Technology Department.  He currently lives in GA on the family farm and enjoys the country life and warm summers in the south.  He can be contacted at loganswilling@southern.edu or 423.236.2860.
