What We Do

When people hear the word "physics," most automatically associate it with tedious lectures on Einstein's Theory of Relativity or are intimidated by the complex ideas and philosophies behind the world around us. However, learning more about physics can be fascinating—especially when learning with others.

The Physics and Engineering Club is dedicated to revealing nature’s phenomena to everyone. We experiment with things like:

  • Liquid nitrogen
  • Dropping items off of the pendulum tower
  • Vibrating sand on Chladni plates
  • Tornadoes in a bottle
  • Van de Graff generators
  • Rube Goldberg Machines

For guest speakers, the Physics and Engineering Club has had professors and professionals from the work field come in to talk about subjects such as the program Mathematica, the particle accelerator in Switzerland, and many other topics.

A special emphasis is placed on community service. A few times each academic year, the Physics and Engineering Club sets out to help those in our local community. Not only does it help those around us, but each member of the club receives a personal benefit.

The Physics and Engineering Club is also a great way to meet new people and socialize with others. It helps create a circle of life-long friends that share this interest.

If you are interested in joining the Physics and Engineering Club or hearing more about it, feel free to come by the Physics and Engineering Department offices, or email us at physengclub@southern.edu.You do not have to be a physics or engineering major to join.

Anybody is welcome!

Contact us via email or feel free to swing by the Physics and Engineering offices. We'd love to see you!
