For the science students in the Hickman Science Center, the nursing students in Florida Hospital Hall, the art majors in Brock Hall, and everyone in between, Southern schools and departments have professional and academic clubs sure to help you get your foot in the door. You can network with area professionals, meet other students on your academic track, and even get involved with organizations in the community.
If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, clubs like the Kayaking Club, Southern Striders, and the Physical Education and Sports Studies Club will get you running, camping, rafting, and more. But you don’t have to join these clubs to join in the fun, the Southern Outdoor Adventure Program (SOAP) hosts a number of events throughout the year, ranging for all levels of experience.
And for those wanting to celebrate the traditions and history of their heritage, the Asian Club, Latin American Club, African Student Union, and Black Christian Union offer great ways to do it. Get involved with other students and celebrate the diversity that makes Southern unique. Each of these clubs hosts a cultural night where they showcase food, music, and traditional dances.
Whatever activities you choose to get involved in, they will help make your college experience unforgettable. If you would like to add to the list of activities available to students, you can do so by talking to Kari Shultz, director of the Student Life and Activities department in the Student Center.
Kari Shultz is the force behind the department of Student Life and Activities. Serving as director since 2000, Kari is well known among students as the go-to source of information, support, and guidance for every student organization and event. From flipping pancakes on the promenade for SA Senate Pancake Breakfast, to faithfully sending the Weekender every Thursday night, she is the perfect example of a caring and involved staff member on this campus. If you need answers to questions, assistance in event preparations, or help starting a new organization or fundraiser, visit Kari in the Student Center or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
