About the Director:
I am a two time Southern Adventist University alumna with a BA in Religious Studies and a master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Outdoor Education. I value my experience of learning and serving at Southern! Prior to my work in Humanitarian Engagement, I served in the School of Social Work for twelve years. I have made life-long friends at Southern, and this is where I met my husband.
I fell in love with missions from my first trip to Honduras back in 2000! Since then, I have had the opportunity to serve in several countries. I love looking for where God is at work and joining Him in the hearts and lives of others both at home and abroad, applying principles from our Vision Trips textbook, Helping without Hurting in Short-Term Missions.
I believe it is my calling to guide students in identifying how their calling could look in a missional context. It is our hope for students to return from a Vision Trip or Local Service with the understanding that they are individually called to serve whether across the street or across the world. We invest a significant amount of time training the students that their service on the vision trip is just one piece in a long-term commitment to engage in poverty alleviation. One of the foundational passages that guides our program is found in Ministry of Healing, page 143.
