Plan to come back to campus to reconnect with friends and see what's happening at Southern!  Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of WSMC-FM, the campus radio station. (Click on title for more information.)

Theme: Sounds of Southern - October 27-30


Special highlights include:

Honor Classes: 1941, ’51, ’61, ’66, ’71, ’81, ’86, ’91, ’01
50-Year Anniversary Celebration of WSMC-FM Campus Radio Station

On-site registration begins Thursday, 1 p.m., Collegedale Church Atrium (complete program booklets available at this location).


Events/Activities:

Thursday -

Kick-Off Banquet, Thursday, 6 p.m., Dining Room, Wright Hall – honored alumni awards presentation, Golden Anniversary Class of 1961 Reunion (pre-purchase tickets through Alumni Relations Office)
E.O. Grundset Biology Lecture Series, featuring James Gulley, M.D., Ph.D., '87, Thursday, 8 p.m., Ackerman Auditorium, J. Mabel Wood Hall  - topic: "Thwarting the (Tumor) Gain Without the Pain: Training the Cancer Patients' Immune System to Fight Cancer" (current students, alumni, and community are welcome to attend)

 

Friday -

Christian Service Initiative, Friday, 9-11:30 a.m., Ackerman Auditorium, J. Mabel Wood Hall. Sharon Weaver Pittman, attendee and current Social Work professor, will facilitate with David Taylor, '66, from World Vision (open to the public)
Photography Exhibition "Southern Exposures," Friday, 9 a.m. to noon, McKee Library. Presentation at 9:30 a.m. by professional photographer, Garrett Nudd, '00, entitled "The Search for 1,000 Words: Exploring Society's Love-Affair with Photography" hosted in the Knowledge Commons on first floor (photography exhibit also available for viewing on Sabbath, 2-3:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon during regular Library hours)
Fiber Arts Workshop, come-and-go, Friday, 9-12 & 1:30-5 p.m., Rm #320, Lynn Wood Hall, bring your own projects or work on quick project provided on-site.  Quilt display open in same location from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, 9-12 & 1:30-5 p.m. Friday, and 2-5:00 p.m. Sabbath.
Ladies Luncheon, Friday, noon, Presidential Banquet Room, Wright Hall (tickets required for guaranteed seating, no charge)
Gentlemen's Picnic Lunch, Friday, noon, Student Park (no charge)

Volkswagen Plant Tour, Friday (transportation provided and leaving from in front of Wright Hall promptly at 1:30 p.m., returning to campus about 4 p.m. - sign-up required - check at registration tables for available openings)

8th Annual Antique and Classic Car Show, Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., J. Mabel Wood Hall parking lot. Southern Smiths Club will demonstrate a working blacksmith forge (open to the public)


Additional activities are currently being planned and will be posted as they are confirmed, so be sure to check back frequently for updated information. A highlights brochure with more specific information and registration form was mailed in July to alumni for whom we have current addresses.
