Theme:  Southern . . . Naturally - Finding Our Mission in God's Creation

Schedule of Activities (so far!):

Thursday, Oct. 23 -

Showcase of Service and Philanthropy - 11 a.m., Iles PE Center (alumni invited to join students)

Registration - 1-5 p.m., Collegedale Church Atrium (also 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sabbath)

Kick-Off Banquet - 6 p.m., Dining Hall, Wright Hall (pre-registration and tickets required-may be purchased through Alumni Relations for $20/person)  

Honorees: Golden Anniversary Class of 1964; Distinguished Service Award - Gilbert Burnham '64; Alumnus of the Year Award - Lars Gustavsson '79; Graduate Studies of the Year Award - Julie Vincent '12; Honorary Alumnus of the Year Award - J. Bruce Ashton

E.O. Grundset Biology Lecture Series - 8 p.m., Ackerman Auditorium, Mabel Wood Hall - Lonnie Maize '78, presenter - Tales from the Trails. Life Lessons from the Birds, Bees, Bears, Flowers and Trees.

Undergraduate Research Facility Open House - 8-9 p.m., Hickman Science Center, 2nd floor (south end) - new state-of-the-art research labs

Friday, Oct. 24 - 

Bird Count and Continental Breakfast - 8-9:30 a.m., meet at the Biology department, 2nd floor, Hickman Science Center (dress accordingly for weather and outdoor conditions; bring binoculars, if possible). (RSVP to Alumni Relations)

Fiber Arts Workshop - 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m., Rm. 320, Lynn Wood Hall. Bring your needleworks projects or work on a provided project. Facilitator: July DeLay '82. Quilts displayed in the same location during this time and also on Sabbath from 2-4:30 p.m.

Psychology Symposium - 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Summerour Hall, Rm. 1200 - Theme: Where Have They All Gone? Career Journeys of Southern Psychology Alumni, a mini-conference hosted by the School of Education and Psychology, Psi Chi chapter, and the Psychology Club.

►Keynote address: 9-9:50 a.m. - Dr. Dany Treiyer '06 (Internal Medicine)

►Stories of Psych alumni career journeys - 10-11:30 a.m.

►Poster presentations on Psychology, the Bible, EG White, and the SDA Church - 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (Complimentary and open to the public.)

Collegedale Stories Workshop - 10-11:30 a.m., White Oak Room, 4th floor, Thatcher South. Learn how to highlight your Southern and Collegedale community experiences in booklet form. Presenter: Helen Bush-Van Boer '45. 

Outdoor Education/Leadership Reunion Activities - (additional activities hosted Sabbath)
►Hiawassee Island Canoe Trip, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., RSVP required (meet at the OEC)
►Tower climbing, Outdoor Leadership stories, hot dog roast, 4-7 p.m., (OEC & Cherokee

3rd Annual Fall Colors Motorcycle Tour - 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., leave from church parking lot (RSVP to Alumni Relations) - pre-register or register onsite

Academic Departments/Alumni Connections - 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Visit major departments to see what's new and to connect with faculty, staff, and current students.

WSMC-FM Open House - 10 a.m.-4 p.m. See what's new at the campus radio station (Industrial Drive).

Ladies' Luncheon - 12 noon-1 p.m., Collegedale Church fellowship  hall (RSVP and complimentary ticket required)

Gentlemen's Picnic Lunch - 12 noon-1 p.m., Student Park Pavilion (RSVP requested)

Southern Smiths Blacksmithing Workshop - 1:30 - 4:30 p.m., workshop off Industrial Drive behind Campus Safety, maximum of 12 participants, RSVP required

Chemistry Alumni Gathering - "Solution: A Mixture of Chemists", 2-4 p.m., Hickman Science Center, 3rd floor

Center for the Study of 19th Century America Celebration - featured speaker: Ben Tarnoff, author of the book The Bohemians: Mark Twain and the San Francisco Writers who Reinvented American Literature, 2 p.m., McKee Library, Knowledge Commons (Complimentary and open to the public.)

Fenton Forest Trails Dedication - 4 p.m., Sunkist Terrace, water tower

SMC-ites/So-Ju-Conians Affinity Supper - 5 p.m., Collegedale Church fellowship hall

So-Mi-Conians Affinity Supper - 5 p.m., Presidential Banquet Room, 3rd floor Wright Hall

Dining Hall Supper - 5 p.m., 3rd floor, Wright Hall (RSVP and complimentary ticket required)

Class of 1994 Reunion Supper - 6 p.m., Student Center (top level of Wright Hall, enter from the Promenade). Hosted by class president, Brennon Kirstein. (RSVP appreciated)

Southern Scholars Reunion Supper - 6 p.m., 2nd floor, McKee Library (RSVP is appreciated)

John C. Williams Art Gallery Opening - 5-7 p.m., guest artist, Charles Zuill, former art professor at Southern from 1975-83, Brock Hall, 2nd floor (open to the public)

Alumni Vespers - 8 p.m., Collegedale Church - Reflections and Reconnections.  Music provided by the Wind Symphony.

3rd Annual Beyond the Columns Networking Brunch - 10 a.m., Student Center - for alumni and current senior class members (RSVP to Alumni Relations)

11th Annual Antique/Classic Car Show - 11 a.m.-2 p.m., parking lot, Mabel Wood Hall
