The School of Education and Psychology is in a temporary location while their own Summerour Hall is undergoing renovation. But their programs are by no means on hold.
The School recently completed its NCATE accreditation, which certifies the teacher education program for the next five years. And they are currently working toward CACREP accreditation to certify the graduate program in counseling, which will likely happen by early 2014.
In addition, our education students are working on a research project focused on bullying in Adventist Schools, and the outdoor education students are gaining real world experience and helping the community by their work with a local Chattanooga school. Made up of mostly underserved children, the school has been granted permission to keep children later in the day during part of the year. Southern’s students spend some of these afternoons working with the children in the outdoors to help provide a fun and educational haven in the midst of the chaos that surrounds many of them at home.
