First Year Experience

What Is First Year Experience?

First Year Experience (FYE) serves first-year and transfer students as they progress through their first year at Southern. The FYE staff assists new, incoming students with setting up their accounts and registering for classes.

The First Year Experience office is open Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 5:00pm, Fridays 8:00am till noon.

Please contact us using the information below for assistance or with any questions.
The Main Event
This is when you can pick up your student ID card, receive calendars, schedules, and important documents, take care of finances, and accomplish other enrollment requirements. All academic departments and majors will be represented. Please note that you are required to present photo ID when you pick up your student ID card.
Parent Orientation
While we are here to help new students find their way around college life, we also understand that it can be tough for parents who do not know what is going on. Our parent orientation sessions are geared to help you learn how to navigate Southern alongside your student.
Southern Connections: NOND 101
The Southern Connections class provides tools for managing the challenges and opportunities on the university journey. Gain a better understanding of your peers, professors, university, community and yourself, while learning to be an active, responsible learner.
Southern Mentor
Each freshman is assigned to a Southern Mentor to help with the transition into university life. These peer role models who have successfully navigated the transition to college can provide helpful advice and direction to newcomers.
