Email Setup for 

Which settings should I choose?

POP3 downloads your email to Mail. Once you've retrieved your email, it is deleted from the server. Then the email exists only on your local computer.

IMAP is entirely server-based. All of your mail is stored on the server, even after you've downloaded and read it. (It's easy to reach your mailbox quota since all of your mail remains on the server, so it's a good idea to archive large and/or old mail to your local computer.)

 

Here's how to set up your Southern Adventist University email account in Mail with Exchange settings:

 

 

1. Open Mail

Open Mail from the Applications directory.

If you do not immediately see a Welcome to Mail account creation screen:

a. Select Mail from the menu bar and then select Preferences.

b. Click [+] in the lower left corner to add an account.

Fill in your Southern Adventist University email account information.


Click Continue.

 


 

2. Account Summary

 

When the Account Summary page is displayed, select Create.

 

 

 

Here's how to set up your Southern Adventist University email account in Mail with IMAP settings:

 

 

1. Open Mail

Open Mail from the Applications directory.

Select Mail from the menu bar and then select Preferences.

Choose Accounts from the tool bar.

Click [+] in the lower left corner to add an account.

Fill in your Southern Adventist University email account information.


Click Continue.

 


 

2. IMAP Settings

From the Type dialog box, select IMAP.

Server name: imap.southern.edu


 

4. Secure Settings

To ensure secure communications, check the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) option.

Click Continue.

 


 

5. Outgoing Mail Server

Settings for the Outgoing Mail Server:

Description: smtp.southern.edu

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.southern.edu

Check Use only this server.

Check Use authentication.

Fill in your user name and password.

Click Continue.


 

7. Secure Settings

To ensure secure communications, check the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) option.

Click Continue.

 


 

8. Account Summary

Review the final settings, then select Take account online.

Click Create.

 

 

 

 

Here's how to set up your Southern Adventist University email account in Mail with POP3 settings:

 

 

1. Open Mail

Open Mail from the Applications directory.

Select Mail from the menu bar and then select Preferences.

Choose Accounts from the tool bar.

Click [+] in the lower left corner to add an account.

Fill in your Southern Adventist University email account information.


Click Continue.

 


 

2. POP3 Settings

From the Type dialog box, select POP.

Server name: pop.southern.edu


 

4. Secure Settings

To ensure secure communications, check the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) option.

Click Continue.

 


 

5. Outgoing Mail Server

Settings for the Outgoing Mail Server:

Description: smtp.southern.edu

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.southern.edu

Check Use only this server.

Check Use authentication.

Fill in your Southern Adventist University user name and password.

Click Continue.


 

7. Secure Settings

To ensure secure communications, check the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) option.

Click Continue.

 


 

8. Account Summary

Review the final settings, then select Take account online.
