eCommunications Manager

Reports To: Director of Marketing and University Relations

Job Summary

As a key member of the creative team, the eCommunications Manager focuses on integrating electronic communication (web, video, audio, blogs, and other interactive media) into the marketing and communications strategy for Southern Adventist University.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create up-to-date, changing, and well-crafted communication incorporating Southern’s key messages and branding for the university website
  • Implement innovative, creative ideas and technologies for the university website, social networking websites, and other interactive media
  • Refine the overall look and feel of the university website and shape its strategic development and creative direction
  • Plan and develop standards, guidelines, and policies for university and departmental websites
  • Lead training sessions—in collaboration with Information Systems on web development and the content management system—to assist department web content managers. Provide support as campus departments are developing their websites
  • Provide monthly website statistics and performance benchmark report to director and vice president. Make changes to website based on this data and user feedback
  • Coordinate web improvements and maintenance with Information Systems. Conduct usability testing as needed
  • Ensure that all webmaster mail receives timely responses
  • Evaluate and refine existing web workflow processes, as necessary, to ensure best practices. Coordinate content review procedures
  • Contract with freelancers to assist with workflow when necessary
  • Participate in and plan Web Oversight Committee meetings
  • Perform all other reasonable business-related functions as assigned


  • A self starter with leadership, teamwork, customer service, and problem solving skills
  • A high level of skill web design and usability
  • Proficient in HTML, Photoshop, Flash, Microsoft Office, and enterprise-level content management systems
  • A meticulous eye for detail, a knack for organization and maximizing quality
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Personality to work with multiple people and to act as a respected gatekeeper
  • The following areas of experience are considered a plus: copy writing/editing, photography, video/motion graphics, sound editing, print design
