School of Music
Music has played an integral part of Julie Penner’s life from her early years, having grown up in a family of singers that includes four brothers and a sister.
Dr. Penner received a bachelor’s degree in vocal education from the University of Idaho. Her master’s degree in vocal performance and literature was obtained from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she studied with John Maloy. She earned her doctorate in vocal performance and pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, where she studied with Lesley Manring.
Dr. Penner has performed extensively as a soloist, with appearances throughout the world, including Israel, Jordan, Greece, Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Romania, Canada, and the United States. Since 1993, she has served on the faculty of Southern Adventist University School of Music where she teaches Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, and Singer’s Diction as well as a weekly Vocal Performance class. Her passion for music and her joy in sharing it with others are readily apparent both in the classroom and on stage.
