John Nixon joined the school of Religion in 2010 after 34 years in pastoral ministry. He served as pastor in various cities, including New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. He has also served as senior pastor on three Adventist campuses, teaching as an adjunct in the religion departments of Atlantic Union College, Oakwood University, and Southern Adventist University. 

Dr. Nixon's passion for preaching the Word has taken him to various cities throughout the United States and around the world, including Australia, Bermuda, Canada, England, Jamaica, Kenya, and South Korea. He has also preached at two General Conference World Sessions:  2000 in Toronto, Canada, and 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia.

John’s wife, Januwoina (Ja-von-na), after more than 20 years as a school teacher, now directs Learning Support Services for Southern Adventist University. John and Januwoina have three adult children: John II, Paul, and Clarise, and two grandchildren, John III and Julia. John’s hobbies include reading, writing, poetry, and walking.
