Latin American Club Week of Prayer

In honor of Latin American Heritage month, Southern Adventist University’s Latin American Club (LAC) is conducting a week of prayer this October 2-5 at 8 p.m. in Thatcher Chapel. Four club members appointed as speakers include Bryan Arvelo, sophomore theology major; Mely Quintana, freshman psychology major; Mark Galvez, sophomore theology major; and Cristian Sorto, freshman theology major. The theme is “Spirit Come.”

“So far I have learned that my identity is more than just my ethnicity. We must be able to celebrate the differences among our cultures. Let’s make the obstacles of society an advantage to our church,” says Thursday night speaker Mark Galvez.

The LAC Week of Prayer leads to a special Thursday convocation and Friday night vesper featuring guest speaker Pastor Laffit Cortes, head pastor of the Miami Temple SDA Church.

In addition to the worship services, the club is hosting a schoolwide “LAC Noche” this upcoming Saturday night (October 7) at 9 pm in Iles Gym. Students and faculty are welcome to experience Latin American art, music, and food.

The Latin American Club is just one of the 50+ clubs and organizations at Southern. Other student favorites include the Asian Club, Black Christian Union, and Enactus.
