Assessments Available

All assessments include results interpretation and recommendations based on the individual’s goals and assessment data.

 

Resting Metabolic Rate $75

Determines how many calories you burn at rest and whether they are coming from carbohydrate or fat stores. Involves lying on a table under a clear dome and breathing for 20 minutes. Best done first thing in the morning. 30 minutes

 

VO2 Max $130
Aerobic capacity is determined by the maximal amount of oxygen the human body is able to utilize per minute of physical activity. Because all tissues and organs in the body need oxygen to function, higher oxygen consumption indicates a more efficient cardiorespiratory system. Involves breathing through a valve while using a treadmill or stationary bike at increasing levels of difficulty till you have reached exhaustion. Blood pressure and heart rate are monitored throughout. Strenuous and not available to men over 45, women over 55, or those with a history of heart conditions or other adverse physical conditions. 30 minutes

 

Anaerobic Threshold $100
This is a sub-maximal test (goes to a threshold, not to exhaustion) for estimation of VO2 max. Involves breathing through a valve while using a treadmill or stationary bike at increasing levels of difficulty till you have reached the point where you are exercising at 100% anaerobic levels. Blood pressure and heart rate are monitored throughout. Not very strenuous for most. 30 minutes

Lactate Threshold: (must be added to a VO2 Max) $30
This is an analysis of your blood and fuel utilization in order to determine optimal heart rates for the type of training that best suits you. Training for different types of events demands strengthening specific energy systems. Knowledge of these systems and how to stress them for optimal performance is discussed. Performed during a VO2 Max or Anaerobic Threshold assessment, the finger or ear is pricked periodically during exercise for a drop of blood on a test strip. 30 minutes

 

Body Composition Analysis:
These assessments are used to determine an individuals exact body composition, % of fat and % of lean mass in the body. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways.

Hydrostatic Weighing (includes Residual Volume) $95

This is the gold standard and most accurate test for body composition. It involves gently lowering the whole body, including head, into a tank of water while sitting in a seat, then expelling all air possible from the lungs. A residual lung volume assessment must be done prior to this weighing to account for air left in the lungs after exhalation. 60 minutes

 

Bioelectrical Impedence $30

A non-invasive and quick test for body composition. 30 minutes

 

Skinfold Measurement $45

A minimally invasive and accurate test for body composition performed by a trained professional. This involves gently pinching the skin with calipers to measure subcutaneous fat. 30 minutes
