Scholarship Thank-You Letter Suggestions

The more you can personalize your thank you letter the more meaningful it is to the donors who made it possible. Some have truly sacrificed to set up their family named endowment or scholarship because they remember what it was like to try to get their Christian education and how someone helped them.

To whom do I address the letter?

  • Address your thank you to "Dear [Endowment Matched] Fund Donor:"
  • Don't forget to include the date at the top

What MUST be included the letter?

  • Name of the endowment or scholarship

What types of things do donors enjoy knowing or seeing?

  • Something about you now: major, year of study, volunteer initiatives, etc.
  • What your plans are for the future
  • How the scholarship(s) and financial aid allows you to attend Southern
  • How this scholarship will affect your life in the future
  • Contact information, if you wish to be contacted by the donor in future: email or cell
  • A modest photo

What happens to this thank-you after I write it?

  • Once you complete your thank you letter, please turn it into the Advancement Office (Lynn Wood Hall) or email to endowments@southern.edu.  Your letter is then sent to the donor and/or their family.
