    Developing a Biology Research Endowment

    sciencelab

    Goal: $50,000
    Amount Raised: $3,000
    Deadline: December 2016

When Southern transitioned from a college to a university, assessment of the Biology department showed a need to make research opportunities available for students.  Today, about 70 percent of students accepted into medical schools nationwide have had research experience in their undergraduate program.  We remain committed to ensuring our students are more competitive for acceptance into the nation’s top graduate, medical, and dental schools by giving them the opportunity to have research experience and publications on their resumés.  To achieve these goals, the Biology Research Endowment builder fund was initiated.

The Biology Research Endowment will provide funds to ensure our students are involved in cutting-edge research projects, not only on campus but also at major institutions around the country.  Funds will allow biology students to:

    • Experience actual research.
    • Compete for scholarships through oral and poster presentations under the Southern Associations of Future Biologists (SAFB).
    • Present their research findings at academic conferences.
    • Be accepted into medical or graduate schools and secure jobs in teaching or research.

Your pledges and gifts are essential to getting our students the opportunities and resources they deserve!  Take the time to give today to ensure a brighter future for each and every one of them.  Make a gift now!
