GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS GUIDE

What do the different levels mean?

A simple way to think about it is this: Split the categories into two, community service and service-learning. Each student needs to complete activities from both categories to fulfill graduation requirements: three community service activities, and two service-learning experiences.

Examples

Some examples from each include the following:

  • Campus-wide MLK service day

  • Weekly outreach ministries—go to: southern.edu/serve

  • Approved Student Organization activities

  • Service-Learning Classes (SERV2)

  • Southern mission trips

  • Student Initiated Projects—this option allows students to tailor a project that combines knowledge learned in the classroom along with something that they enjoy doing. Must be pre-approved by the Christian Service Program Director.

* AS degree candidates need one activity, or three hours
