Merge - Alma Scholarship

The Alma Scholarship - by Merge Worship

This scholarship will support currently enrolled and prospective students of single-parent homes, who attend Southern Adventist University.

This scholarship is named after the original Alma Award, which was established in 2008 at the Capital City Seventh-Day Adventist church in Sacramento, California. It was named after the mother of the former senior pastor - Dr. Reginald Horton, who wanted to honor his greatest example of unrelenting determination and commitment. With grace and much prayer, she single-handedly raised three boys in the inner-city of Memphis, Tennessee. This scholarship was part of a community outreach program targeting single parents in need of financial assistance and served to build a bridge between the local community and a church dedicated to aiding their tangible needs.

MERGE Worship, a student-focused and student-led worship service of the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church on Southern’s campus, is similarly inspired to directly impact the lives of students choosing to defy the odds stacked against youth/young adults of singleparent homes.
