Southern Introduces New Mission, Vision, and Values

Over the course of 2019, the leadership of Southern Adventist University worked to revise the university’s official mission, vision, and values. A vote by the university’s Board of Trustees on October 6 finalized the new statements.

Journalism Alum Receives Prestigious Awards

This summer, an alum and adjunct instructor in Southern’s School of Journalism and Communication was awarded one of the most coveted honors in broadcast journalism: a Peabody. David Barasoain, ’89, won the award for the podcast “Buried Truths,” which he produces with a team that includes Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Hank Klibanoff as the host. The podcast also received a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism award for radio.

Southern Alum Provides Closure for Family Following Tragedy

Southern Adventist University alum Rich Abernathy, ’18, made national and international headlines this summer when he discovered a long-lost GoPro camera belonging to a young man who had passed away two years prior.
