FYE Peer Mentor

Location/Department: First Year Experience 

Description/Duties: The primary concern of the Student Mentor is the first-year student's adjustment to college life residentially, socially, academically, mentally, and spiritually during the first year. It is the Student Mentor's job to help acclimate the first-year students to the campus and integrate them into the SAU community. The Student Mentors will meet with the new arrivals, provide academic support, facilitate social connections, offer spiritual encouragement, be available to answer any questions, and familiarize the new students to services provided on campus and in the community. Student Mentors will be assigned approximately 5-20 new students of mixed gender, and are required to complete the following tasks:

1) Aiding and assisting freshman/transfer students their first year here

2) Planning and organizing engaging social events for mentees

3) Filling out biweekly reports on the wellbeing of mentees

4) Attending and engaging in weekly assigned Southern Connections class

5) Coordinating and communicating with Southern Connections Professor

4) Attending weekly mentor meetings

Qualifications: 

1) Have a 3.0 overall GPA

2) Willingness to help and be good role model to fellow students

3) Be self-motivated and have good communication skills

4) Show integrity in all work and maintain a positive attitude

Hours: 6-10 hrs on average, it will depend on the size of the group you are assigned

Our Dish Room Experts sort trays from the tray line.  They also rinse and wash pots, pans, and utensils from the production and service areas and put the clean items away.

This can be a very fast-paced position at peak meal times but we still try to have fun while we work. 

Previous experience is a benefit but not required.  We are glad to train a willing learner.
