Latin American Club (LAC)

Latin American Club History

The Latin American Club (LAC) at Southern Adventist University was founded in 1997. As one of the largest clubs at Southern, it consists of over 200 members from many different nationalities. The LAC is dedicated to reaching out to the community, students, and administrators. Its main purpose is to help students grow spiritually while providing a fun and exciting atmosphere. The Latin American Club provides a close-knit environment in which members can feel like they are part of the family.

Activities

  • LAC Retreat - a time to come together for a spiritual weekend in the mountains
  • LAC Week of Prayer - an entire week full of great speakers and prayer
  • Survival Camp - a getaway from hectic college life to have time alone with God and learn about different survival techniques, such as where to find water and how to make a shelter
  • LAC Night - an opportunity to give students, administrators, and the community a glimpse of Latin American cultures

Community Involvement

The LAC provides support to the Chattanooga community in many different ways. It holds a cooking class for the community where participants can learn how to make different Latin American foods, take home the recipes, and try out their own cooking skills at home. Members also visit area nursing homes, sharing their smiles as they serve. Other activities include wrapping Christmas gifts for children who are less fortunate, sending care packages to missionaries, and volunteering at the Hispanic-American church for "Día de la Hispanidad."

Current Latin American Club Officers

The officers' goals are to focus on getting to know LAC members, for the community to know the LAC, and for LAC members to get prepared for God's soon coming. Please tell the officers your ideas or send suggestions or comments via email to Latinamericanclub.sau@gmail.com. LAC officers encourage involvement in LAC and ideas are greatly appreciated.
