Vespers Winter 2021

Isn't it unsafe to have in-person Vespers?

Based on a careful study by the University Health Center, in conjunction with the County Health Department, there was no evidence that Vespers is an unsafe event up till this point. Certainly, if there is evidence of transmission at Vespers, appropriate changes will be made. We continue to monitor the situation with the help of the University Health Center. If any student wants to participate in Vespers but is uncomfortable attending in-person, there is an online option available for Vespers.

Does Vespers only offer one credit to watch online?

No, you get the full two-credits when you watch online - the same as in-person.

Why don't you change Vespers a non-credit requirement for this semester for safety?

The University Health Center (UHC) has shared that having student programming on campus incentivizes students to stay on campus. UHC has been appreciative of the Friday night Vespers as they believe it has helped reduce COVID-19 spread both on campus as students are less likely to leave campus. It also keeps our wider community more protected. They have also been pleased with the contract tracing system in place at Vespers.
