Coronavirus Updates

Southern Adventist University has recommended that all overseas student missionaries return home. We solicit your prayers from the many who have returned, those who are returning soon, and those who have elected to remain overseas. In the face of difficult times around the world, we are thankful to know and serve the God of peace. In the months ahead, we will continue to support all of this year’s SMs regardless of their location. We will also move forward in preparing students to serve for the coming school year. Launching dates and needs may change, but the world’s need of Jesus remains - maybe more clearly now than in a long time. As such, we are still fully operational and available for any questions. As we are now working from various parts of the country, the best way to contact us is by emailing studentmissions@southern.edu. Email sent by Christian Bunch, Student Missions Director, on March 12: "Dear student missionaries, I was hoping never to have to write an email like this - I have some unfortunate news. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Southern will be suspending classes until the end of the semester and switching to online courses. You can look at southern.edu/coronavirus for more information. As a student missionary, Southern is recommending that you come home. I know this will have a huge effect on the organization you’re serving, but we must do what we believe is in your best interest and ask you to return. We do not want you to be stranded overseas as travel restrictions may continue to increase. We will arrange for your soon departure if you choose to follow this recommendation. If you choose to remain at your location until the end of your term, you will do so at your own risk. Regardless of when you decide to return, your insurance benefits will continue until you are back home. However, we have no way to guarantee your timely arrival back into the United States if you stay as our resources will likely become more and more limited if the coronavirus pandemic continues to progress. Please consult with your parents and email us your decision by tomorrow - March 13. If you or they have any questions I will be checking my email frequently throughout the day, and if you want to call me I'm here for you. I will support you in whatever decision you make. We are praying for you, your families, and those you serve. I am so sorry."
