School of Social Work
Kristie Wilder graduated from Southern Adventist University with a bachelor's degree in social work and completed her master’s degree in social work at the University of Tennessee. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law. Prior to coming to Southern, Dr. Wilder worked with children, adolescents and families in community facilities, non-profits and government agencies. Her experiences include program development for children in state's custody, training child welfare workers and foster parents, and developing juvenile justice and child welfare policy with the Comptroller's Office of Research and Education Accountability in Nashville, Tennessee.
In the classroom, Dr. Wilder is committed to the success of her students. She believes that learning should be both rigorous and fun, stating, "I count it a privilege to witness students' growth—academically as well as spiritually and emotionally."
When Dr. Wilder is not working or spending time with her husband Tron and sons Ace and Jude, she enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, and extending hospitality to friends, family and students in her downtown, historic home. She can also be found actively participating in her urban church plant and neighborhood association.
