Parent Orientation

What is parent orientation?

As a parent of a new student, we understand you may be wondering what life will be like for students on our campus this school year, particularly in light of coronavirus concerns.

For your convenience, we are offering virtual Parent Orientation sessions prior to your student’s arrival. You can choose between two orientation options, one in July or one in August. Each orientation will include five segments offered over five consecutive evenings. As a result, no orientation sessions for parents will be offered on campus this fall.

The first one-hour session is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 6, at 7 p.m. and continue at the same time each evening through Friday, July 10. The second orientation will be Monday through Friday, August 3-6, starting at 7 p.m. each of the five evenings. These live segments will give you the opportunity to share specific questions and comments. Please contact me if you did not receive links to the live sessions via email. Recorded sessions will be available below after the events. Following is the schedule for both orientation weeks:

Tuesday 7 p.m. – Student Development
Dennis Negron, Vice President for Student Development Find out about life in the residence halls, Student Support Services resources, student activities, and the enrichment program, which offers worships, convocations, music performances, and cultural programing. The university's Drug and Alcohol Policy and Title IX also will be discussed.

Wednesday 7 p.m. – Health and Safety
Michelle Mix, University Health Center Director
Josh Fraker, Life Safety and Fire Systems Specialist
Learn about the university’s commitment to keeping students healthy and safe, including special precautions being taking during the pandemic. Whether your student isn’t feeling well or needs help jump-starting a dead car battery, caring staff are always ready to help.
