WHY PSYCHOLOGY AT SOUTHERN?

The psychology program provides a solid pre-professional foundation in the study of the human mind and behavior from a Biblical framework.

Choose a Psychology Practicum with a minimum of 100 hours at an agency providing psychological services.

Develop an independent research proposal, conduct research, analyze results, and present findings under the supervision of dedicated faculty.

Attend annual psychological conferences, such as the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA). Take advantage of scholarly opportunities with potential for membership in the International Honor Society of Psychology (Psi Chi).

Psychology Practicum

Psychology majors spend 100 hours or more applying what they learn in the service of local agencies and organizations. For example, a few of the places our students have served include Addiction Treatment Centers, Alzheimer Care Centers, Counseling Treatment Centers, Hospice Centers, Juvenile Detention Centers and more.

Psychology majors often attend professional conferences like the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) where they can hear cutting-edge keynote speeches from experts and interact with professionals currently in the field.

Any student interested in Psychology can join the "Psych Club" as it's known on Campus, but Psychology majors usually form the core of the group. The club is committed to promoting knowledge and the appreciation of psychology to students through social and educational activities and service projects.

Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, has a local chapter on Southern’s campus that encourages research, leadership, and creativity for those meeting specific scholastic requirements in Psychology. Highlights include the fall Psychology Symposium and the spring, annual induction service.
